Sometimes when you work in an office 9-5 every single day, you have to be able to make your own fun. And sometimes that fun comes in the form of picking out your own office products.
It’s okay to admit it – you secretly get a little bit happy when you get a new office chair, or a new monitor stand, or a shiny new ruler, or one of our favorites – a new stapler!
Especially if you work in administration, you probably do a lot of stapling. Even if you don’t, just working in an office requires you to use a stapler quite a bit. So why not use the best stapler?
Like with all mundane tasks, it’s always a bit better if the tool you’re using is kind of fun.
It makes the task a little bit better if it looks cool, works well, and feels good in your hand. How annoying is it when the stapler comes out crooked? Or you have to slam it down on the desk to get it to work?
Or just won’t quite make it through that 20-page PowerPoint deck?
We get it.
You want something that works. So go ahead, check out our list of the 25 best staplers. We included quite the variety so there’s something for everyone. And don’t worry, when your new stapler arrives and you’re a little bit giddy with joy, we won’t tell anybody.
AmazonBasics Stapler – Good for the Basics
Starting things off nice and slow with the AmazonBasics stapler.
This is about as basic of a stapler as you can get, people. It’s black, it’s light, it’s cheap, it has rubber on the bottom so it won’t slip around on your desk and that’s about the extent of it. It has a ten-sheet page capacity and can be opened up completely so that you’re able to staple things onto a bulletin board.
It also includes a really convenient rubber staple remover at the end. Perfect for those accidental staples and it’s guaranteed you won’t lose it.
This isn’t anything heavy-duty at all but if this is going to a place where a lot of people will be using it (e.g. a classroom or copy room), then it could be perfect. Overall, one of the best staplers for teachers.
Or if you only staple a couple of sheets together at a time at your own desk – but remember, not more than ten!
Swingline Desk Stapler, Commercial – Reliable Brand
Swingline is essentially the staple king. You have probably seen this classic iteration of a stapler thousands of times. They are the OG of staplers and produce very high-quality products. This one is definitely a bit more heavy-duty than the last and can staple up to 20 sheets.
So still nothing too crazy, but that will cover a lot more of your needs than 10 sheets and it’s made out of metal so it just feels sturdier. It also contains a specialized inner rail to help prevent jams.
Like the previous, you can also open this up to use it to staple vertically. Also nifty enough, on the side, there’s even a low-staple indicator so you know exactly when to change it. It holds a full strip of staples (210) however, which should last you a decent amount of time.
Swingline Stapler, Optima 40 – Durable Metal Construction
The next few staplers are going to all be from Swingline but don’t worry, they’re all going to be radically different. Swingline makes so many different types of staplers we probably could’ve written a second article completely about Swingline. Either way, this is even more heavy-duty than the last and you’re able to staple up to 40 sheets at a time!
If you didn’t think 20 would be enough, then 40 should be more than plenty.
And if you’re passing out a PowerPoint deck with more than 40 sheets, then maybe re-think your meeting.
This has a durable metal construction, requires low force, and is jam-free! Yay! The staples also come out totally flat so you’re able to stack your papers without it toppling over. A little pricier than your average stapler but if you do a fair bit of stapling, totally worth it.
Swingline Stapler, 25 Sheets – Super Quiet
This is a nice happy medium between the Swingline staplers. You’re able to staple 25 sheets at a time which is a pretty good amount. This is a reduced effort stapler meaning you don’t have to put in as much effort as a typical one to staple the same number of pages.
It holds a full strip of staples (210) and even has a low-staple indicator on the side so you’re able to see exactly when you’re running out.
Also as an added bonus, no staple anxiety.
This stapler is super quiet so you don’t have to worry about everyone staring at you as you staple an entire stack of papers. There’s also a nice soft grip on here that makes it comfortable to use and makes it so it won’t slip out of your hand.
This is a great stapler for 95% of jobs, highly recommend.
Sparco Stand Up Full Strip Stapler – Great Upright Design
We have a new design that we’re introducing to the list with a stand-up stapler! We love this because the stapler is always in an upright position, ready to staple anything at a moment’s notice! It’s ergonomically designed as well so it’s very comfortable to use even if you’re going to be stapling all day.
Also because of the rotating anvil, you’re able to use this stapler both open and closed.
Overall this is a very solid stapler and if you prefer that stand-up design over the other, then this is definitely the stapler for you.
This is great not only for an office but it’s actually durable enough to withstand the staples of hundreds of kids in a school. This is a very versatile but also very durable stapler that certainly will not disappoint.
We can’t recommend it enough.
Bostitch Ascend Antimicrobial Stapler – Protects Against Germs
This is the perfect stapler if it’s going to be used in a communal environment or if you’re just a germaphobe and get grossed out by people with the office cold continually asking to use your stapler.
Just use your own, okay? This is an antimicrobial full-strip stapler that’s both lightweight and ergonomically designed so it’s comfortable to use.
It even opens up to a full 180 degrees for easy tacking.
Our favorite part, there’s even a built-in staple remover so no need to have two separate tools for the job! Your favorite stapler does it all.
It also has a 20-sheet capacity so it’s able to handle almost all common jobs around the office.
Another fun part is that this comes in about ten different colors! So choose your favorite or if you’re buying a bunch, buy one of each and brighten up your office. No matter what color you choose – this is a great stapler from Bostitch.
Swingline 747 Classic Stapler – Very Durable
We’ve decided to include another stapler from Swingline but it’s just because they’re all so dang good. And the 747 classic stapler is no exception. Its all-metal construction makes it extremely sturdy and extremely durable
It has a 20-sheet capacity, which is about industry average and can either staple normally or it easily opens up for easy tacking.
This stapler is built to last and can seriously take a beating. If you’re the clumsy type, consider this stapler.
Swingline also believe in their product so much, they include a limited lifetime warranty as well as a 100% performance guarantee.
That’s right.
Swingline is so convinced that their stapler will last forever, they offer a lifetime warranty on a stapler. Eat your hearts out and go with the Swingline 747 Classic Stapler – you will not be disappointed. Seriously.
Bostitch Ergonomic 20 – Comfortable To Use
Maybe the metal design isn’t your thing or you just don’t like the look/feel of it.
We get it, sometimes the all-metal stapler thing does feel a bit sterile. Or if you’re using it in a classroom, you might not want a bunch of young children wielding a metal sword that shoots out metal. Understandable.
This features a nice plastic, ergonomic design that you can use normally but also open up to use for stapling onto a bulletin board or wherever.
This one also will not jam whatsoever, allowing you to quickly zip through whatever task you need to get done. Not to mention, this little guy is also insanely cheap.
Not bad for a reliable stapler that feels exceptional to use and also will never get jammed. Overall another quality stapler from Bostitch.
Swingline Tot Stapler – Adorable Mini Stapler
Perhaps you want a stapler you can throw in your bag so you can staple your term paper right after you print it and as you’re running to class because you forgot to staple it at the library.
You don’t want to be mistaken for an Office Depot and carry around a giant metal stapler in your bag! Swingline provides the perfect solution with their Tot Stapler.
This little guy may be tiny but he is definitely mighty. This comes pre-loaded with a magazine full of staples as well so you’ll be good to go straight out of the box.
In such a tiny stapler, they’ve still managed to squeeze in a staple remover!
Swingline really is the king of the staples. This is the perfect (and can we say adorable) solution to on-the-go stapling. Or if you’re just limited on desk space, this will still do the job with a 12 sheet capacity. We highly recommend this tot stapler.
Bostitch Dynamo Stand-Up Stapler – Bang For Your Buck
Next up is probably the second most recognizable name in the world of staples – Bostitch!
They’ve created a stapler for under $10 that really lets you feel like you’re getting the most bang for your buck.
This is a sturdy, stand-up stapler that has a beautiful ergonomic design that’ll fit beautifully in your hand. It’s also antimicrobial protected making it perfect for schools and offices where people act like children.
Bostitch also manages to squeeze in quite a few extras in such a small space.
This stapler boasts a built-in staple remover, extra stapler storage, and even a pencil sharpener.
Yep! You read that correctly.
There is literally a pencil sharpener inside of this stapler. If that doesn’t just scream functionality, then we don’t know what does. This stapler comes highly recommended from us.
It seriously does not disappoint.
Onotio Heavy Duty – Barely Ever Jams
Like we mentioned before, we’re trying to include a wide array of different types of staplers on our list.
We’ve already gone to the other end with the Swingline Tot Stapler so now we’re going to the opposite side with the Onotio Heavy Duty stapler. And heavy-duty it is. This will easily punch through up to 100 sheets of paper without jamming.
When it does jam (rarely), it has an easy clear front-end mechanism to get you up and running within seconds.
Onotio offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee so there truly is no reason not to try it.
If you’ve been looking for a stapler that can keep up with your heavy stapling load, then look no further.
They even make a model for under $10 more that will staple 150 sheets instead of 100.
But seriously, this is a sturdy stapler and will get you through the toughest of jobs.
Best Red Office Space Stapler – Cool Design
Whoever told you that you can’t have a beautiful stapler was blatantly lying to your face. We’re absolutely in love with the design of this stapler. It’s fun, enjoyable to look at, and will really spruce up your desk. There are also three other color combinations you can choose from if red/gold isn’t your thing.
It features a rubber bottom as well to prevent it from slipping all over your desk and even has a 20-sheet capacity.
Who said that beautiful things can’t also be functional?
Definitely not us.
This stapler also hardly ever jams. It does an exceptional job at the one thing it’s designed to do: the staple.
There’s also a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if you don’t like it for whatever reason, you can easily return it with no questions asked.
This is definitely one of the nicest staplers to look at and if you’re looking something to bring a little life into your workplace, then look no further.
This will unquestionably do the trick.
Rapid Classic K1 – Very Efficient

This has a 50-sheet capacity so it can handle the thickest of documents. This is a back-loading stapler and you’re able to flip it all the way around just in case you need to staple onto a bulletin board.
This is ergonomically designed as well so it’s comfortable to use and feels good in your hands.
We have the classic gray color featured here but it does come in a few other more fun colors – black, blue, pink, and white. All in all, this is the perfect blend of a casual stapler you can keep on your desk and one that you’d find in the copy room.
Rapid knocks it out of the park with the Rapid Classic K1.
Swingline Desk Stapler, Reduced Effort – Minimal Effort Required
Swingline manages to make it onto our list yet again with their reduced effort Optima 40.
Reduced effort staplers really do a lot to ease the burden of having to press so hard down on your stapler. This takes about 50% of the effort of a normal stapler so if you do a lot of stapling throughout the day, this will definitely save your hands.
This is also jam-free so you never have to worry about spending time figuring out how to un-jam your stapler.
This also doubles as a stand-up stapler which is amazing!
It also features Quickload Technology so all you have to do is press a button and the front magazine ejects, allowing you to quickly throw in the next row of staples.
This also makes the staples completely flat in each stack of paper so you’re able to make neater stacks that won’t fall over. Overall another solid stapler from Swingline.
PaperPro inSPIRE 20 – Extremely Lightweight
We have another solid reduced effort stapler up next from PaperPro.
PaperPro has created a truly ‘one-finger stapler’ with the inSPIRE 20. They mean it – you can literally staple 20 sheets together with just the touch of a finger.
It’s jam-free and also super lightweight to allow for frequent use.
Of course, the base is non-slip so you don’t have to worry about this zipping around your desk.
The inSPIRE 20 also easily accepts a full strip of staples.
Do not let the look fool you.
It may look tiny and like it can’t do much but it’s actually just the opposite.
This will last you for years and will barely jam along the way.
It’ll also save you a lot of effort with its one-touch stapling technology.

Xyron Teresa Collins – Sleek and Versatile
Looking for a heavy-duty stapler that looks a little sleeker? Look no further!
This not only looks sleek but is also super versatile.
You can use it in your hands as a squeeze stapler but you’re also able to set it down on your desk and use it as a more conventional stapler if you so desire. It has a soft grip and ergonomic design that makes it not only strong and efficient, but comfortable to use – even for longer periods of time.
For right around $10, you really cannot go wrong with this stapler. It feels much more expensive than the price and you can tell that it’s definitely going to last.
It’s comfortable, it’s practical, and it’s efficient. You will be the envy of all your co-workers.
Make sure you label this one because we can guarantee somebody is going to try and nab it off your desk.
PaperPro inPOWER+ 28 – One Finger Stapling
Up next is another one-touch stapler from PaperPro and it truly is one touch.
With one finger you’re able to staple up to 28 pages altogether in one tiny motion.
It opens up for bulletin board tacking and provides you with a jam-free operation every single time you use it. It looks sleek and is in a durable die-cast metal body with rubber on the bottom to prevent any slipping whatsoever. This is a truly powerful stapler that will get the job done no matter what it is.
One of our favorite features in a stapler is a built-in staple remover!
It’s a beautiful thing for some reason – a tool that includes another tool to undo the action it just did. Anyway, the PaperPro inPOWER+ 28 includes one of those and it works pretty well too.
If you like doing mundane office tasks with as little effort as possible, in this case with one finger, then we highly recommend the PaperPro inPOWER+ 28. You can thank us later.
JAM Paper Colorful Staplers – Comes in Fun Colors
There’s nothing wrong with adding a little bit of color to your office.
You’re forced to be in a tiny room for eight hours a day, you might as well add something to your view that reminds you a little bit of the outside. JAM makes this stapler in about 12 different colors so no matter what your favorite color is, you’re able to find something that suits you. While it may look fun and colorful, does it do its job?
Of course, it does! It will staple through 20 sheets of paper like it’s butter.
Not sure why you’d be stapling butter, but we’re not here to judge.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can actually purchase staples the same color of your stapler! They also have a whole line of matching accessories to match your stapler if you so desire. Overall this is a fun stapler that also does its job.
Bostitch Antimicrobial 130 – Resists Germs
This is a menacing stapler if there ever was one. This guy will staple up to 130 sheets with ease.
It feels super heavy duty and you can tell from the first time you use it that this stapler is not going to break anytime soon.
It features an all-metal construction for lasting durability and also no-jam technology so you won’t ever have to waste time un-jamming your stapler. It’s also antimicrobial protected to keep you from getting that pesky office cold that’s going around.
You would expect that such a heavy-duty stapler would cost you a heavy-duty price, right? Well, think again!
This goes for under $40. So yes, it is a bit more expensive than some of the other typical desk staplers but none of those can easily staple 130 sheets of paper in one go. If you need something heavy-duty, the Bostitch Antimicrobial 130 is the stapler for the job.
Bostitch EZ Squeeze 40 – Makes Stapling Easy
Bostitch is now giving Swingline a run for their money in the number of staplers that are being featured on our list.
This Bostitch EZ Squeeze, as the name implies, features EZ Squeeze technology so it’ll feel the same whether you’re stapling together two sheets or 40 sheets.
While this may sound like an oxymoron, it actually is pretty quiet for a stapler making it ideal for open office environments.
It’s ergonomically designed and super comfortable to use.
It can also be used either laying down or standing up giving you added versatility and letting you use it exactly how you want to use it.
It’s sleek and is the perfect middle-ground if you need something a bit more powerful than your average stapler, but don’t want to buy a terrifyingly massive 150 sheet stapler. Bostitch really pulls through with this one.
Small Office Stapler, PraxxisPro – Great Mini Option
We wanted to include another mini stapler for those of you who are usually stapling on the go.
As a student, you’re constantly being forced to staple together homework, papers, books you accidentally ripped – anything can come up really. It can pretty handy to have a tiny stapler in your bag.
When your friends hand in homework that is paper clipped together and you hand in a neat and orderly stack of papers, they’ll wish they had one too.
It may be tiny but it’s able to staple as much as a standard unit – 20 sheets.
It comes in eight different colors as well so you can find something fun, or stick with the standard black if you wish.
This also includes a box of 800 staples! So you’ll be good to go from the second it arrives. We love the small office stapler from PraxxisPro and think it’s the perfect portable solution.
Bostitch B8 Heavy-Duty – Can Withstand a Beating
Up next is another all-metal stapler from Bostitch that is heavy-duty, comfortable to use, and features jam-free technology.
This stapler is no joke.
This is excellent for manufacturing environments or even office environments that can get a little brutal occasionally. It’s also super easy to load and you can do so straight from the top.
All you have to do is squeeze it, the top opens, throw in the staplers, and you’re good to go.
This is easily the most heavy-duty stapler on the list. You can drop this, throw it, try and smash it – it can withstand it all. Okay – don’t try and do all of those things but you get what we’re trying to say. It can withstand quite the beating, all while easily stapling 45 sheets together! Bostitch does it again and is truly giving Swingline a run for their money.
We cannot recommend this stapler enough.
Buyer’s Guide
Buyer’s guide? What? Why would you need a buyer’s guide when buying a stapler. Pffft. Well, hear us out! While this may not be the most complicated purchase you’ll make all year, there are still some things that you’ll want to look out for when buying a stapler. Believe us, you’ll be happy you thought about it.
Capacity
This is number one! How many sheets can it staple? On the low end, it can be up to 10 sheets and on the high end, 150 sheets. The standard tends to be around 20 but if you put together documents that are a little bit thicker – make sure you get at least 20 but maybe look for one around 40-45.
Antimicrobial
If you are going to be using this in a place with a lot of germs (read: school) then you might want to make sure it’s been treated with an antimicrobial coating. Better safe than sorry.
Anti-Jam Technology
If you’re going to be stapling frequently or really thick stacks, make sure that the stapler won’t jam. Most these days are pretty good about it but definitely something to look out for.
Conclusion
Okay so with so many staplers to choose from, how are we going to decide which is the best! While there were definitely a lot of great options, there’s definitely one in our mind that clearly stood out as the best stapler. But which is it? Was it one of the top ones from Bostitch or Swingline? Or perhaps one of the underdogs. Well, the wait is over. We’re about to announce the best stapler of 2022.
We’re going to have to go with the Swingline Stapler (number 4 on our list).
This is the perfect balance between design and also being heavy duty. It can staple slightly more than average at 25 sheets, absolutely will not jam, looks great, and features reduced effort technology so you don’t have to worry about straining yourself if you’re going to be stapling a lot that day.
Actually, after closer inspection, we have come to the belief that the best stapler is the Bostitch Ergonomic 20. It’s so comfortable to use and it produces some great results. It doesn’t jam and is also quite comfortable to look at. The Swingline stapler above is a close second though.
Well, thank you for reading my friends! Hopefully, by now you’ve ordered your brand-new stapler (or know which one you’re going to order) and are on your way to a more stylish, easy-to-use stapler for your desk or office.
